Eric is a trick rider for a small circus.  The circus is at their Winter Quarters in FL.  Hearing a noise in the barn, he races over to find his horse trampling a groom, Richter.

Feeling the trampling is not an accident, the owner of the circus hires one of the Surfside 6 detectives, Dave Thorne, to investigate.  Dave goes undercover as a clown and is being watched by Eric and other performers as he tries out his clown routine.
